In these days, we're trying to make the punctual differences between what you usually do (present simple) and what you did in the past (past simple). Fill the gaps:

Now he (want) ................... to go to some other country. At 12.30 I usually (go) ......................... out for lunch with Helen, the secretary. @ Passive present and past

A) Explanation:

1. The passive voice is used when the focus is on the action. It is not important or not known, however, who or what is performing the action.

Example: My bike was stolen. In this example, the focus is on the fact that my bike was stolen. I do not know, however, who did it.

2. The passive voice is more polite than active voice, as the following example shows:

Example: A mistake was made. In this case, I focus on the fact that a mistake was made, but I do not blame anyone (e.g. "You made a mistake!"). If you want to blame on that person, you can write this: "The mistake was made by you!" but you will probably say the active sentence.

3. Passive voice is used in scientific writing to get a more objective and precise text :

Example: Later, these results are analyzed by the experts.

B) Structure (Present S. and Past S.)

1. Present .................... IS / ARE  +  PARTICIPLE ............... Your paintings are + sold

2. Past Simple ............... WAS /  WERE  +  PARTICIPLE .......... Your paintings were + sold
