@ Direct and indirect OBJECTS (pronouns)

1. Before using pronouns, let's see a video about the difference between DIRECT and INDIRECT OBJECT

Remember the ORDER OF THE ELEMENTS:

SUBJECT + VERB + IO  + DO
(more usual)
or
SUBJECT + VERB + DO + preposition (for, to...) + IO
(less usual)

see here a Spanish explanation

2. Now tell me, is this direct or indirect object? CLIC HERE

3. Is everything clear? If not--- CLIC HERE AGAIN

4. Now, let's change the order and substitute them like in the following example:

- I'm giving Robert some money

- I'm giving some money to Robert

- I'm giving it to him
(more bizarre: I'm giving him it)

     a.  I gave a kiss to Susan ---->
     b. They have told an horror story to Peter and Sarah --->
     c. She was buying some clothes for her sister --->
     d. They should ask for a new ticket to the shop assistant --->
     e. You shoudn't give your pocket money to your classmates ---->

4 CONCLUSIONS

1. IO BEFORE DO -----> Susan gives Ana some money

2. If  IO comes after DO, use a preposition --->Susan gives some money  to Ana

3. When both are  replaced by pronouns, the IO always goes after the DO--> Susan gives it to her

4. When DO is replaced by pronoun but the IO not, de IO is usually after ---> Susan gives it to Ana (Susan gives Ana it: it's unusual)

5.Pay attention and don't get confused!:
